I wanted to wear my favourite dress to church one Sunday when I realised that the dress wouldn’t just go past my mid section or fit into my Christian mother arms again.
I rebuked the devil in charge of obesity and struggled with the dress but it was still the same. I tucked in my tummy tightly, folded and squeezed my breast and held my breath till I almost suffocated. No way!
Without any warning, the zip of the dress tore mercilessly. I had no option than to wear another comfortable dress that could accommodate and hide my new inflated body size.
This morning, I felt confident enough to wear the dress again. All the 18kg of weight I have lost from January till date should at least allow the dress to fit. It was then I remembered that the zip spoilt months ago.
I went in search of a tailor to help me fix the zip.
Tailor 1 – Sorry Ma. We don’t do amendment here.
Tailor 2 – We deal with only new clothes here. Our fashion house has no room for amendment.
Tailor 3 – I am busy now. I don’t have time for amendment.
Tailor 4 – My madam no dey do amendment. She say make we no collect am.
I was so frustrated with their replies. Please can anyone tell me what exactly is wrong with amending a cloth? Is it insulting to their trade?
Is there a rule that says tailors shouldn’t amend clothes for people?
Will amending an old cloth or common zip stop other jobs from coming.
If you know why tailors don’t amend old clothes that are still very clean and almost new…
Please tell me….
